Recap: Days 021-024

My birthday is tomorrow and so as a special treat I used a gift certificate to get a massage.  I figured with all the working out that we had done that it would be an amazing treat for my body.  Unfortunately, this was not the case.  I had such a negative experience from the moment I walked in to the moment I left.  I keep trying to tell myself that any touch to the back is probably good for me, but it was so hard to get out of my head and relax when the table kept rocking back and forth and the massage was so poorly executed.  It definitely was a bummer.  But, on a good note, my MIL got me a massage for my birthday too, so I have an appointment Monday which will hopefully makeup for this disappointing experience.

Food:  This morning’s juice was a blend of beets, cucumber, watermelon, pineapple, and carrots.  For lunch I made vegetable taco with a warm corn tortillas, avocado, sour cream, red bell pepper, and sriracha.  For my snacks I had trail mix, banana, pineapple, watermelon, grapes, and almonds.  And for my dinner I had seconds of my yummy lunch.

Exercise:  During the mountain pose I found myself really concentrating on the breathe and feeling more connected and engaged, but I’m still struggling with the Pranayama.  Without fail, my leg continues to fall asleep during the practice and it draws my attention away.  I guess I still have a long way to go in really disconnected with the outside world.

Today was my birthday and it was an awesome day.  At first I thought everyone forgot because we got into the bustle of getting ready, but my husband pulled out a card for me and told me we had to go to my parent’s house to get my gift because he had hid it.  We pulled up on the way to work and he got me an awesome cruiser bike!  It was just what I wanted and I didn’t even tell him.  It came decked with a cup holder and basket too!  I had a full day at work and saw 7 clients in an 8 hour day, but it left me feeling energized rather than depleted.  I had a great dinner with the family after work and met up with one of my best friends of almost 20 years for tea. I received so many positive birthday messages that I felt on cloud 9.  It was a great day.

Food:  Today I blended beet greens, grapes, carrots, and pineapple for juice. For lunch I had one of my pre-made vegan chili dishes with a sweet potato.  I snacked on trail mix, pineapple, grapes, watermelon, and peanut butter celery.  For dinner we went out to a local restaurant and I had a gluten free pulled pork sandwich in lettuce wrap with sticky rice, coleslaw and pickles – it was absolutely delicious!  And for my birthday desert we got mint chocolate chip italian ice.

Exercise:  Tonight was another great night on the mat.  I was a little tired simply because it was a later night for us and our sleep has been a bit off this past week, but overall I am finding the yoga program to be a lot easier to progress through.  I am still loving it so much. This is definitely a different way to celebrate my birthday than in years past.

Today was another long but good workday. When we got home from picking up the kids my brother who came up to visit for my birthday came over and ate dinner with us. It was so great to be able to visit with him. And he brought me an amazingly wonderful surprise! For my birthday he got me a Lululemon yoga mat! What an awesome treat!

Food:  For breakfast I made tomato with peanut butter and cracked pepper.  For lunch I had the same as yesterday – a sweet potato and vegan chili.  Throughout the day I nibbled on trail mix, banana, lime greek yogurt, pineapple, grapes, and watermelon.  For dinner I made filet mignon steak nachos.  After dinner we juiced beet greens, pineapple, grapes, and carrots – yum!

Exercise:  Tonight I got to use my new yoga mat, which was awesome and gave me an extra incentive to practice hard. That said, the cardio whipped my bottom and I felt exhausted by the end.  Tomorrow we have our Warrior Dash race, so I’m hoping to get a good night sleep.

Today was an awesome day.  We dropped the kids off with my sister and in our race gear we drove to the country to get good and muddy.  We had a blast tackling the obstacle courses and I was proud of myself for making it through them all including the rope wall and the ice cold lake swim.  Unfortunately, despite keeping a smile on my face for the entire day, I did have a less than ideal ending to the race when I sprained my wrist going down the final water slide.  I’m not sure how this is going to impact the yoga challenge, but we will take it one day at a time.

Food:  For breakfast I had hummus and carrots.  I snacked on trail mix.  For lunch I had vegetable tacos with red peppers, corn tortillas, avocado, and sriracha.  For dinner I was not too hungry so I simply picked at more hummus and carrots for dinner.  We did not end up juicing today because of the chaos of an early morning presentation I had, the race, and then my injured hand.

Exercise:  Tonight we opted for Yin Yoga rather than strength because of my sprained wrist and it was extremely tough.  My muscles were very tight, perhaps as a result of the race.  But, despite it being a more challenging session, it is probably exactly what my body needed.  There were only 2 downward dogs in the entire program and I was able to modify, so it looks like there will be a lot of Yin Yoga in our future.
